He earned his PhD from the University of Colorado Health Science Center in the broad field of pharmaceutical sciences, specializing in Medicinal Chemistry. His primary research interests have focused on the design, synthesis, and evaluation of a novel series of androgen receptor targeted cytotoxic compounds, which have shown promise as prostate specific antineoplastic agents. Dr. Cogan's postdoctoral research efforts have spanned the broader field of bioorganic chemistry, specializing in the design of novel protecting groups for the optimization of a more efficient and "greener" approach to phosphoramidite mediated oligonucleotide synthesis. He is currently interested in developing new synthetic techniques for the preparation of active drug metabolites. He co-holds two patents and has published several scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
