Birgit Nardell hails from Germany but she has made her home in the United States since her undergraduate years and is a citizen of the US. She completed her BS degree at the University of Illinois and her master’s degree and Ph.D. in Physiology/Pharmacology at the University of Maryland College Park. Courses in clinical pharmacology were completed at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Nardell completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Pharmacology at the University of Southern California. Her extensive teaching career in Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology and academic leadership as chair of pharmacology, division director of pharmacology, physiology, medical cell biology and behavioral science have included appointments at the University of Maryland College Park, the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and Medicine, Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine, University of Nevada and Ross University School of Medicine. She has numerous publications and has been engaged in many professional activities related to medical education. Her honors and awards for teaching have included “excellence in teaching and student services”, teaching excellence. Teacher of the Year, outstanding anatomy and physiology teacher, instructor of the year award . . .and the list goes on.
