After practicing in the UK for a time he became a General Surgeon in South Africa specializing in Trauma Surgery. In the United States he spent time performing specialized research in the Cardiovascular field and working with the Food and Drug Administration. He has published research on biological heart valves , antipseudomonal antibiotics and the efficacy of surgical procedures.
Prior to taking up his position at AUA he was a Specialist in Accident and Emergency Medicine in the UK and involved in teaching medical students and junior doctors .He was also a Rescue Physician with the British Automotive Racing Club.
